What are Crowns & Bridges?

Crowns and bridges are both restorative dental treatments that can help to return the normal function and appearance of your smile.

They can help to fill the space left by missing teeth and can also help you maintain your natural facial shape as well as return your ability to speak and chew properly.

By repairing structural problems such as damaged or missing teeth using a dental crown or bridge, our dentists can help restore your smile – and your oral health.

Repair For Gaps in Your Smile

If a gap in your smile isn't filled by a dental crown or bridge, your remaining teel may slowly adjust their own positions, becoming misaligned, making themselves more difficult to clean, and negatively impacting the integrity of your jawbone.

These restorations can either be supported by healthy teeth in either side of the gap (in the case of a dental bridge), the remaining tooth structure or a damaged tooth (in the case of crowns) or by one or more dental implants (for both restorations)

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are hollow, artificial teeth that are placed over a full damaged or decayed tooth to bring it back to its original size, colour and shape. Dental crowns can help to work on the strength, appearance and function of a broken tooth that could otherwise be lost.

Crowns are strong restorations and can be made from a handful of materials, such as metal and porcelain. They function and look like natural teeth, and if treated properly, could last 10 years or more.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are a natural-looking restoration that 'bridges' the gap between missing teeth in your mouth. They can be made up of one or more artificial teeth. The bridge is fastened to the teeth on both sides of the gap to fill the space.

A bridge can help keep your other teeth from shifting positions to fill the space, which could cause more serious dental problems such as gum disease.
